Leanne Shapton writes a book about a romance, but she doesn't write a novel. What she does is compile an auction catalogue of all the items and mementos shared by the two lovers. We catch glimpses into private moments (a box of Trivia Pursuit cards kept in the bathroom), we are voyeurs to personal moments of doubt (relationship pros and cons list), and we read between the lines of Christmas & birthday gifts (vintage clothes, first edition books, flowers).
This book is not everyone's cup of tea - but it has moved and touched me in ways that any great love story does.
Today I drew a picture of a panda girl. I have been a bit obsessed with animal-girls lately, and she was one of the many ideas I had floating in my head. In a way, she is a companion piece to this drawing I made two years ago - but this time around I used ink & charcoal in addition to pencils.
